In Praise of Chocolate

What can be said about chocolate that is detrimental? Nothing I say! When life is'nt going the way you want it to who can you turn to? A bar of chocolate! When you lose your budgie what helps you to stay calm? Chocolate! Even when things are going right what makes the day even better? Chocolate! What better than to settle down with a good supply of the smooth, sweet, chocolaty substance that makes life so much better. The only reason not to indulge is if you are worried about your waistline, but even then it'a worth the risk!

Is getting older such a terrifying thing?

Since getting older is going to happen anyway, maybe we should take a more laid back view of it. Less mobility, forgetfulness, fear of losing our looks- these are some of the biggest problems, but, in a more positive vein, one thing that outlasts everything is PERSONALITY. People who have a more positive view of life are able to accept the "ravages of time" more than those who worry about every wrinkle, but even these people can help themselves to be more relaxed about what cannot be avoided. Relaxing techniques, like meditation, listening to music, being absorbed in a creative hobby like gardening, sewing, or other craft can keep the mind occupied. Keeping fit is a positive move-walking or whatever you can do. Keeping the mind active is neccessary-reading, crosswords, etc. Staying in touch with family, especially younger members. Think "young" and never say the dreaded words "I'm too old for this" Do'nt talk yourself out of doing something different- talk yourself into it! Age is only a number, not a jail sentence!

Fair Weather friends

Ever have a friend let you down? Going from the uplifting feeling of the warmth friendship gives you to the cold feeling you get when a friend lets you down can be one heck of a blow to your self esteem. However, life goes on as they say, and you pick up your wounded heart and nurse it back to health by going out on a binge, or a bit of retail therapy, or purchasing a voo-doo doll and sticking pins in it! (The latter activity is not really advised though; it could become adictive!). If it happens to be a boyfriend, move on to the next applicant and make the most of it just to spite him. Most of all-be kind to yourself!

My Cat "Monty"

Monty has run away from home: he has been gone nearly four weeks but we still hope he will come back. He is three years old, a long-hair ginger cat and very friendly. We were looking after kittens and Monty must have felt left out so he took off. Some people won't have pets in case this sort of thing happens, or they die, but I have always had cats. They were all homeless at one stage- we now have just three with Monty gone.
Come home Monty, we miss you!

Dead Dog

I read recently the shocking story of a man who starved his dog to death over a period of four months. It was still in it's baskaet when found with the lead still attached. How cruel can you be? So many people believe that animals have no feelings but you can see the affection in a dog's eyes when he looks at his master, and the sadness in his eyes if he loses a mate. The affection that animals show us is more trustworthy than people's, and is never changing. They become part of oue families, and should be treated with respect.
